Solution description

Comprehensive and Scalable Portfolio of Microcontrollers and Microprocessors

Effortlessly meet the ever-changing requirements of modern electronics with our portfolio of scalable 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) and Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs). Our flexible peripherals and functions make it easy to create differentiated applications that set you apart from your competition. You’ll find it simple to get started by using our intuitive design environments and visual configuration tools, while our proven reference designs and professionally-tested software libraries lower your design risk.
If your design outgrows the capabilities of our MCUs, you may want to cross over to our 32-bit and 64-bit microprocessors (MPUs), which support higher processing power and memory storage. We offer a comprehensive portfolio of 32-bit and 64-bit microprocessors (MPUs) based on Arm or RISC-V architectures to provide powerful and flexible options for applications that span from consumer products all the way to deep space missions.

Lowest-Power, Multi-Core RISC-V SoC FPGAs

The PolarFire® SoC FPGA family delivers a combination of low power consumption, thermal efficiency and defense-grade security for smart, connected systems. It is the first System-on-Chip (SoC) FPGA with a deterministic, coherent RISC-V CPU cluster and a deterministic L2 memory subsystem for creating Linux® and real-time applications. PolarFire SoC FPGAs enable Asymmetric Multiprocessing (AMP) systems that can run a real-time application at maximum performance while also running the Linux OS. This solution offers a high-performing system that is not fully deterministic. PolarFire SoC FPGAs also enable fully deterministic real-time applications alongside the Linux OS that execute on time, every time.

Development Tools and Ecosystem

Our development ecosystem brings you intuitive design environments for quick prototyping. Use one of our reference designs or boards to jump-start your design so you can focus on differentiating your product. Use our professionally tested software frameworks, libraries and code examples to write your firmware with confidence. Our MPUs are supported in the same toolset and MPLAB Harmony software framework as many of our MCUs, which enables an easy transition. For development using the PolarFire® SoC FPGA family, we provide the PolarFire SoC (MSS) Configurator, the Libero® SoC Design Suite, the SoftConsole IDE, and the Mi-V Ecosystem.

LDRA Integration

LDRA’s integration with Microchip’s MCUs, MCPs and PolarFire RISC-V SoCs allows developers to verify software operates safely and securely throughout the software development lifecycle. The integration provides several capabilities including:

  • Directly integrating with the Microchip’s and third-party IDEs commonly used for development, allowing users to see static analysis results and track code coverage directly in the IDE.
  • Importing IDE project files and tracking build processes to ensure accurate analysis scope.
  • Using IDE device programming environments to automate unit testing, regression testing, and code coverage analysis.
  • Supporting CI/CD platforms to extend DevOps to include safety and security analysis, verification, and reporting.

As a member of the Mi-V Ecosystem, LDRA provides one of the critical tools that supports Microchip’s RISC-V initiatives to increase adoption of the RISC-V ISA and Microchip’s PolarFire SoC FPGA and RISC-V soft CPU portfolio.
