You can use MATLAB and Simulink for Model-Based Design to perform requirements specification, system and software modeling, simulation, fixed-point design, code generation, and verification and validation. Production code generation is provided using Embedded Coder®.

Engineers use MATLAB and Simulink to design and simulate high-integrity applications, including those requiring certification to safety standards such as DO-178C and ISO 26262. They then generate C and C++ with Embedded Coder and verify the code by reusing the simulation tests to exercise the executable object code (EOC) in software-in-the-loop (SIL) or processor-in-the-loop (PIL) simulation modes. These co-simulation test modes support verification of models and code in open-loop using stimulus data or in closed-loop using plant models.

From MathWorks release R2011b onwards, the LDRA tool suite (LDRA Testbed®) can automatically run during SIL and PIL testing to measure code coverage of the generated code. From R2021b Update 1 onwards the integration also supports LDRAcover®. Test engineers use this support to examine code coverage results from MATLAB or the LDRA tool to assess code test completeness.
