Hersteller Initiative Software (HIS) is a committee drawn from Audi AG, BMW AG, Daimler AG, Porsche AG, and Volkswagen AG. The committee’s focus is to help vehicle manufacturers master the principles and methods of software and quality assurance for microprocessor-based control units.
Historically, HIS publications included language subsets (or colloquially, “coding standards”) but they have been superseded by the MISRA standards, although LDRA tools still offer support for them for legacy work.
The HIS source code metrics are still in common use today. They define recommended thresholds for a set of key code quality metrics, to help ensure efficient project and quality management.
TBhis is an optional module available for the LDRA tool suite. The TBhis module automates source code checking for compliance to HIS source code metrics throughout the development life cycle. The appropriate application of TBhis automates the application of HIS metrics, helping to yield the efficiencies and quality improvement promised by the standard.
