ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 2023 plenary venue

While LDRA is well-known for its participation within the MISRA C and C++ working groups, it is also an active participant in many other standards activities.

Between 4th and 9th of June, LDRA’s Technical Specialist Andrew Banks visited Okayama (Japan), as the UK’s Head of Delegation to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 Software and Systems Engineering.

Although the ISO/IEC code of conduct prevents disclosure of the details of matters discussed within the sub-committee or its working groups, the following highlights can be disclosed:

  • AHG 7 Open-source software – Andrew is the convenor of this ad hoc group, investigating potential standardisation in the area of open-source software. Having presented an interim report, AHG7 was reconstituted for a further period.
  • WG 26 Software testing – This working group is responsible for the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119 family of software testing standards. Work progressed on the development of several parts, including ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-11 Static analysis (led by Andrew), and ISO/IEC 29119-11 Testing of AI systems in conjunction with ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42.
  • WG 6 Software product and system quality – This working group is responsible for the ISO/IEC/IEEE 250xx SQuaRE series software quality standards. Work progressed on the development of several standards.
  • WG 4 Tools and environment – This working group is responsible for an extensive portfolio of standards relating to software tools and methods. Work progressed on the development of several of these; of particular highlight was the publication of ISO/IEC/IEEE 24641:2023 Methods and tools for model-based systems and software engineering for which Andrew has been a co-editor.

The 2024 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 Software and Systems Engineering plenary will be held in Berlin.
