Process standards such as IEC 62304 mandate that all requirements, design elements, source code, tests, and related artifacts be linked across the lifecycle. Many companies use manual methods with tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel to manage traceability. But as embedded software becomes more complex, the challenge of demonstrating traceability makes these tedious, error-prone manual methods increasingly unworkable.
